Open World Games Like Gta V
21 October, 2020: By Ajoy Maitra

Defining a special Open-World genre, Grand Theft Auto has always been a preference for the gamers who love to spend their time roaming around, shooting and stealing. GTA V was a breakthrough among all its previously released titles, with a super optimization where even a mid range desktop can run it smoothly. Setting a new record of $815 Million in worldwide revenue just within its 24 hours of release, it had an approximate of 11.21 Million copies sold.

After the game has been released for PC on 2015, it has a never-ending popularity among the gamers, playing almost for 20 hours a day, mainly GTA Online. Never before GTA had such online experience as this release where the game continues to receive occasional updates even in 2020 attracting a huge player base than any other online games available, except for DOTA 2 or CS GO. Superb optimization combined with a tailored storyline and online DLC Updates, Grand Theft Auto V has set a standard for any upcoming open world games, that left even Hideo Kojima state,

When we say we're an open-world game it makes it sound like it's trying to be the same as what those guys are creating...

Kojima was also setback by the trailer release and was astounded with such visuals and gameplay, stating,

It was amazing, so awesome. The degree of freedom - it's the future of games! It's on a different level than other games. But honestly, I'm upset. I can't see our 'V' gaining victory over their 'V'. But Rockstar's production team is the best. Make no mistake, they increase what's possible with games.

Very few of the open world games has that feel of Grand Theft Auto and here I have collated some of them that somehow ignites the same feeling however, not so much as GTA.

GTA V ALIKE GAMES TO PLAY

• Watch Dogs 2

Truly amazing visuals and following the previous part - Watch Dogs' trail, Watch Dogs 2 is a perfect game to compare with GTA V. Though the Online experience does not match like GTA V, its smooth parkour and action attracts players to complete the story missions without taking much break. Playing as a hacker who has many criminal records, sets forth to erase the database controlled by an organisation 'Blume' providing intelligence and monitoring with CtOs 2.0 in San Francisco, becomes a member of a hacktivist group known as DedSec to take down the organisation involved in an illegal data leak.

• Sleeping Dogs Definitive Edition

Almost similar to GTA, Sleeping Dogs has one exciting feature which the GTA games misses - Martial Arts & Parkour. The story follows as an undercover agent who gets himself involved into a Mafia organisation known as Triads with a mission to take down the criminal activities, indulging into brutal combats and open hand fights. For most gamers, the combo takedowns and screenplays are the critical attractions that make them play for hours. Sleeping Dogs has done a great job with the game and various open world activities starting from training yourself in martial arts to racing all over the streets and create hazards.

• Far Cry 5

Not really like GTA, but this game features the open world vast landscapes as GTA V and has stunning visuals to it. Nevertheless, you would feel like sky diving and hover over the landscapes with your wingsuit, which is one of the things missing in GTA V where you only have a parachute to glide over. Far Cry 5 is set in the beautiful Hope County, Montana where you play as a Deputy on a mission to save your team and eradicate the cult lead by 'The Father' - Joseph Seed. Amazingly tailored storyline and gameplay worth remembering, Far Cry 5 is one the must play titles among all other previously released Far Cry games.

• Payday 2

Resembling to GTA V, Payday 2 has the heists which are most enjoyed when played with friends, online in several heists and build a criminal empire. Not really set in an open world, it has some exciting features as Grand Theft Auto and worth playing.

• Saints Row 4

An action-adventure punk category game, it is almost similar to GTA aside the animated looking characters featuring bomb-shell unusual guns & cars in an unreal world. Challenges involving superpowered abilities to run & jump, Saints Row 4 gameplay has an unique art of satisfaction. Another exciting feature which the GTA series misses is the character customization where a gamer can change the look completely from dressing to attitude. Previously till Saints Row 2 the game used to match its content as GTA series at those time, however, they leaped forth to a different horizon of gameplay from Saints Row 3 rendering full game-like satisfaction to be able to do anything just to enjoy and relax.
